Review: Pé Roto - Tormento (Doomed Records / Raging Planet)

In recent years many good bands have emerged on the portuguese metal scene, some of them are making their way on the top tier metal bands. We have some great examples like the rising of Gaerea on the Black Metal Scene, the rising of the slamlords of Analepsy, Ashes Of Life and many more bands.
So for now, we have theses guys called Pé Roto from the city of Braga, presenting their sludge/stoner/doom metal since 2014, founded by Felipe Silva (on bass), Nelson Velho (on rhythm guitar), Tiago Oliveira (on drums), Vasco Grilo (on lead guitar) e António Costa (on vocals).
Their first release was the EP called "Bracara Angvstia" in 2016 via Mad Pulse, and finally they are coming to consecrate their own way with their debut album titled "Tormento" which will be released on February 10 via Doomed Records and Raging Planet.
The album starts with the song "Mordaça" ("gag" in english), obliviously the songs here are sung in portuguese. The band's proposal is already presented right away, fuzzier doom metal, with shouted vocals talking about existentialism, freedom, injustice, greed, in general, about the obscure world in which we live.
The second song, "A Besta" ("The Beast" in English) if you're familiarized with Stoner/Doom and things like that, you will quick catch the strong influences coming from Windhand, the guitar flows really like what Windhand is. The song talks about a man and his mirror, which reflects the beast inside his body calling to embrace his dark side, only death can be seen and agony fills his mind. On the second half of the song we can hear clearly another influence for the band, one of the masters of Stoner/Doom: Electric Wizard. Dirtier like "Weird Tales" from the album "Dopethrone".
The third song called "Sangue" ("Blood" in english), their first single of the album, back to the cadenced start of the album, then breaking to the voidness of thoughts quickly lifted by the blood who fills the place where only greed lives. I liked so much the solo by the way.

Then, the fourth song breaks the entire album and goes a way faster and heavier. "Máquina da Morte" ("Death Machine" in english) recalling the explosive style of Weedeater, another great influence for the band. 1 minute and 50 seconds of Punk aggression.
After that we are brought back to the muddy doom metal with "Intervenção" ("Intervention" in english). Repressive and hateful sound, freedom slowly trying to break the chains who sorrounds this bloody soil, kill or be killed.
On the last song we've got the Acid Doom sound from Electric Wizard. "Teatro-Circo" ("Theater-Circus" in english), presents us with the dark show controled by greed, where the decadent script dictates what the alienated actors will do, with each change of acts in this presentation the curtain of conspiracy closes and opens as the audience applauds in this old and decrepit theater.
In the end, it's a theatrical performance or a circus? How is life meant to be? Society is that great?

Before I get to the final conclusions and rate this album, I wound like to make a big shout for Doomed Records!!
As I mentioned before, this album is a great one if you like Weedeater, Electric Wizard, Windhand, or any Stoner/Sludge/Doom like this ones.
Fuzzier guitars, strong bass tone (really liked the bass sound there), slow and well paced rhythm, with shouted punk vocals, walking throught decadence and ripping with deep anger.
My favorites are: "A Besta" (my number one here), "Sangue" and "Teatro-Circo".
Don't forget: "Tormento" will be released on February 10 via Doomed Records and Raging Planet. Pre-orders here: https://doomedrecords.com/
