Review: Maze Of Terror - Into The Jaws Of Terror (2023)

After the release of the impressive "Offer To The Fucking Beasts" in 2021, the Peruvian band Maze Of Terror releases in this year of 2023 another EP of originals "Into The Jaws Of Terror" via Selvajaria Records, showing an impressive consistency over the years and the commitment to make a destructive sound, with strong traces of the legendary brazilian band Sarcófago, more specifically from the first album "I.N.R.I." released in 1987.

The songs were recorded between 2016 and 2020, and show how the band's sound remains in its original essence, the raw Blackened Thrash Metal. Initially we have the devastating "Evil Rise", featuring the classic scene of satanic chants from the movie "Alucarda" (1977) before the destruction begins, following the pattern of dirty and fast Black Metal and ripping vocals. The second track "Unholy Terror" is the one that comes closest to Sarcófago, more cadenced than the previous track but still fast, remembering the rhythm of "The Laws Of Scourge" from Sarcófago's second album of same name, while "On Blood Remais" captures more the essence from the "I.N.R.I." with more edgy blasts beats. Finally, we have the track "Covenant", marked by a killer double bass drums and a composition that is very reminiscent of the Black Metal bands of the 90s.

Certainly, Maze Of Terror has been consecrated as a band for those who enjoy the Fast Thrash Metal with the raw sound of the 90's Black Metal, with strong influences from Sarcófago. If you like this style, listen not only to this EP but also to the band's latest release "Offer To The Fucking Beasts" released in 2021, you won't regret it.
